Research Infrastructure for Sustainable Aquaculture

At Proyectos Públicos, we believe in collaboration to transform aquaculture into a more sustainable and resilient practice. We are now inviting universities, research centers, institutions, and companies to take advantage of our aquaculture infrastructure in Tuxpan, Veracruz, Mexico for research projects focused on sustainable aquaculture.

Application period: Open from July 1st to August 15th, 2025

Research project timeline:  We are planning for research projects to begin in Winter 2025 and run through Autumn 2027. Projects can be proposed for specific seasons, single-year, or multi-year durations.

WHAT DO WE OFFER?
    • 30+ hectares of aquaculture ponds, previously operated as a shrimp farm.
    • Water use permits granted, with access from the estuary directly connected to the pond system.
    • On-site accommodation facilities for researchers and project teams, allowing for extended stays
      and immersive research experiences.
    • Basic infrastructure and on-site logistical support during research seasons.
    • Flexible rental options—by season or per project.
LOCATION:
    • Ponds are located in Tuxpan, Veracruz, less than 4 km from the sea shore and directly connected to the estuary.
WHO SHOULD APPLY?
    • Researchers, scientists, and academics with projects in sustainable aquaculture, mangrove restoration, biofloc, integrated multi-trophic aquaculture, native species breeding, water quality,
      and more.
    • Startups and companies developing innovative technologies or models for aquaculture.
    • Institutions looking to pilot sustainable production methods or ecological restoration strategies.
ADDITIONAL SUPPORT:
    • Permits for site access and water use already in place.
    • Accommodation infrastructure on site for individuals or teams.
    • Opportunities for long-term or medium-term project partnerships.
    • Adaptable space for different research needs (tanks, open-air experimentation, etc).

      its main goals and expected impact.
    • Team overview: A brief profile of the researchers or team members who would be on-site.
    • Preferred duration: Indicate your ideal period or season for the project and approximate
      length of stay.
    • Commitments and budget: Outline the kind of commitments you are able to make (financial, logistical, collaborative, etc.), and the budget available for the project.
    • Special requirements: Note any infrastructure, equipment, or support needs.
