Casa Margarita

Casa Margarita

[ 1 / 3 ]

This early-20th-century house was home to Margarita Quijano, known as “La Dama de la Capital.” She lived here with her family in a space that is now recognized for its architectural and cultural heritage, preserving the spirit of its era. Margarita was a teacher, literary critic, and one of the most prominent figures in the cultural life of her time. Admired for her love of literature, she turned the house into a gathering place where numerous literary salons flourished.

These walls witnessed many stories, including the friendship and romance between Margarita and Ramón López Velarde, which inspired Zozobra (1919), regarded as the poet’s crowning work and one of the foundational books of modern Mexican poetry.

[ 3 / 3 ]

Following an extensive restoration, Casa Margarita became part of the Proyectos Públicos ecosystem, reactivating the legacy of its former owner through a program and experiences devoted to culture, literature, poetry, and music.
