This house in Colonia Juárez, built in 1905 by engineer Alberto Robles Gil, is one of the great jewels of Porfirian-era architecture. Remarkably, the building once fell into abandonment. Every period it passed through and every different use it had is recorded in a palimpsest of colors and materials that remains extraordinarily well preserved today.

Proyectos Públicos acquired the house in 2013, and since then it has hosted important cultural and celebratory events. A 50-meter-long gabled roof designed by the architecture studio Productora is the building’s most visible intervention, partially covering its three courtyards. This light contemporary gesture once again embodies the many intersections that define the building.

It is difficult to enumerate everything that happens here. Workspaces, restaurants, short-stay apartments, and multiple areas dedicated to cultural events and celebrations coexist within the same place.

[ 4 / 5 ]

Over the years, the building went through different uses and owners, gradually falling into decline until it was abandoned in the 1970s. Its structure and façade, including a stone plaque from Hacienda de la Encarnación, resisted the passage of time and preserved the essence of its original grandeur. In the 2000s, INBA protected the building, preventing its demolition and recommending a complete restoration.
